LYRICAL THOUGHT
The language of our culture is negative, course, degrading, and malicious to say the least. It is seen and heard in almost every form of media and venue of entertainment. It can adversely influence the way we speak to and communicate with others. As Christians, we are called to be different in our freedom to express. We are to avoid foul language, foolish talk, and words that blacken God’s name. Instead, we must encourage believers and non-believers with words of truth, love and healing. Most of all, our speech should reflect positively on God our Father and bring honor to his name. SCRIPTURAL THOUGHT **You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. (Exodus 20:7) **Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. (Proverbs 4:24) **Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. They have no fear of God at all. (Romans 3:14,18) **And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! (James 3:10) **Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. (Ephesians 4:29) **Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. (Ephesians 5:4) |
